Lesson Details
Key learning points
- Angles are measured in degrees
- Degrees measure rotation
Common misconception
Pupils think that the larger the size of the arc between the two lines, the larger the angle must be.
Ensure pupils compare the same angle where the arc has been drawn on either closer to the vertex or further away from the vertex. Generalise that the position of the arc doesn't matter, though it is convention to draw it closer to the vertex.
Keywords
Angle - An angle is a measure of turn. It shows how far something has rotated.
Degree - A degree is a unit of measure for angles.
Arc - An arc is part of any curve. They can be used to show the angle between two lines.
