Key learning points
- Objects can be shared into a number of groups.
- The division symbol is used to represent sharing.
Common misconception
Pupils may find it challenging to represent sharing problems with a division equation.
Continually describe what each number represents in any division equation. Examples on slides 11-13. It's important that pupils do not over generalise this to all division problems (e.g. in grouping problems, the divisor is the size of each group).
Keywords
Share - Share means to split into parts.
Equally - Equally means having exactly the same amount or value.
