Key learning points

Most final consonants and final letter 'e' are silent, [-er/-ez/-é] all make the same sound and [on] is a nasal sound.
-er verbs take the following endings in the present tense: je-e, tu-es, il/elle/on-e, nous-ons, vous-ez, ils/elles-ent.
'on' can mean 'we' or you/people and 'vous' can be informal plural as well as formal.
'il(s)' and 'elle(s)' can be used for things (as well as people) and mean 'it' or 'they'.
Two-verb constructions with 'aimer' are used to say what we like doing.

Common misconception

'Il', 'elle', 'ils' and 'elles' only refer to people and not things. 'Il' therefore only means 'he' and 'elle' only means 'she'.

It is useful to keep in mind that 'il, elle' and 'ils, elles' can refer to things as well as people. In this case, 'il, elle' means 'it' rather than 'he, she'.
