Key learning points
- Many words end in SFCs (silent final consonants). The letters c, r, f and l are, however, generally pronounced.
- 'Je suis'- I am, 'tu es'- you are, and 'elle, il est'- she, he is are all parts of the verb 'être', 'to be' or 'being'.
- Possessive adjectives have masculine forms 'mon', 'ton' and feminine forms 'ma' and 'ta'.
Common misconception
Like in English, most consonants are pronounced at the ends of words.
Many words have SFCs (silent final consonants) in which the last letter is not pronounced in French.
