Key learning points
- Imperative verbs make the instructions very similar to commands as they are bossy and tell the reader what to do.
- Instructions are written in chronological order and use ordering fronted adverbials to sequence them.
- A plan is written in note form and will help guide us when writing.
Common misconception
Pupils may think that they do not need to plan the ordering fronted adverbials they'll use because they are self-explanatory, with 'First' at the beginning and 'Finally' at the end.
Teach them that there are lots of different ordering fronted adverbials and some of them can be interchanged, such as 'Next' and 'Then'.
