Key learning points
- A numeral is a digit that represents a number.
- The numerals 0, 1, 2, 3 and 5 are made using one continuous movement and without lifting your pencil.
- The numeral 4 needs the pencil lifted to add a second line.
- The numerals 0 to 5 all sit on the baseline.
Common misconception
Often students will struggle with which direction to go in to form the numerals 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Model clearly using physical things in the room to show which direction they will be drawing. 'To the left, towards the window' for example.
